On April 24, His Holiness Karekin II led members of the Brotherhood of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to the solemn Genocide Memorial at Dzidzernagpert, to honor the memory of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
There, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians placed a wreath before the eternal flame of the memorial complex, before leading the assembled clergy, dignitaries, and faithful in the Prayer for the Holy Martyrs. Accompanying the Catholicos was the visiting Roman Catholic Archbishop of Marseille, Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline.
The same day, His Holiness presided over the Divine Liturgy and requiem service at Etchmiadzin’s St. Gayane Chapel, where Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan celebrated the badarak and delivered a homily. As part of the service, a holy relic of one of the Genocide Saints was brought out for reverence by the faithful. The delegation from the Mother See had also brought the relic to Dzidzernagapert.
Catholicos Karekin II also addressed the worldwide Armenian Church in a message, in which he honored the memory of those who “received the crown of Christian martyrdom while holding tenaciously to their faith, with love and loyalty to their national heritage.”
He observed that this year’s Genocide commemoration comes at a time “when our people are facing new existential threats and the most serious security concerns. After the genocidal actions inflicted upon our people of Artsakh, and the collapse of Artsakh’s surrounding regions, we now worry about the dire situation threatening Armenia’s own borders.”
But he expressed confidence that “our people will find strength in their heroic past, and the determination of our ancestors to never submit to evil. With that same spirit, we will expel from our life every destructive tendency that goes against the national interest, and find the path out of our present difficult circumstances, to build towards a victorious future.”

Dear Armenians of our Homeland and the Diaspora:
Today, once again, we commemorate with prayer and respect our holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide. They received the crown of Christian martyrdom while holding tenaciously to their faith, with love and loyalty to their national heritage.
We honor the memory of the Holy Martyrs of the Genocide at a time when our people are facing new existential threats and the most serious security concerns. After the genocidal actions inflicted upon our people of Artsakh, and the collapse of Artsakh’s surrounding regions, we now worry about the dire situation threatening Armenia’s own borders.
Our unalterable duty is to defend the integrity of our homeland, to strengthen the independent statehood of Armenia, and to preserve our ancestral traditions and heritage as a sacred relic.
Our people will find strength in their heroic past, and the determination of our ancestors to never submit to evil. With that same spirit, we will expel from our life every destructive tendency that goes against the national interest, and find the path out of our present difficult circumstances, to build towards a victorious future.
Dear pious people: On this solemn day, let us pray wholeheartedly for the intercession of our Holy Martyrs, that under the grace and blessing of the Risen Christ our entire nation may be peaceful, safe and secure. May the divine rays of Faith and Hope guide our steps along the road of security and progress.

Սիրելի ժողովուրդ հայոց ի հայրենիս և ի սփյուռս,
Վերստին աղոթքով և խոնարհումով հիշատակում ենք Հայոց Ցեղասպանության մեր սուրբնահատակներին, ովքեր ամուր պահելով իրենց հավատքը, սերն ու նվիրումը առ ազգն ու հայրենին՝մարտիրոսության պսակն ընդունեցին։
Հայոց Ցեղասպանության սուրբ նահատակների հիշատակը նշում ենք մի շրջանում, երբ մեր ժողովուրդըգտնվում է գոյաբանական նոր սպառնալիքների և անվտանգային լրջագույն հիմնախնդիրներիհանդիման: Հայրենի Արցախում իրականացված ցեղասպանական գործողություններից և Արցախիհայաթափումից հետո ներկայիս մտահոգիչ ծանր իրավիճակ է Հայաստանի սահմանայինտարածքներում։
Սուրբ Նահատակների լույս հիշատակի առջև մեր նվիրական պարտքն է՝ պաշտպանելամբողջականությունը մեր հայրենի երկրի, նախանձախնդիր լինել հայոց անկախ պետականությանզորացմանը և որպես սրբազան մասունք պահպանել մեր նախնյաց ավանդներն ու ժառանգությունը։
Մեր ժողովուրդը հզոր է իր հերոսական անցյալով, չարի ու չարիքի դեմ պայքարի վճռականությամբ և նույնոգով պիտի հեռացնի իր կյանքից ազգային շահերին հակառակ կործանարար դրսևորումները, առկաբարդ իրադրությունից ջանքերի մեկտեղումով ելքի ուղիներ գտնի և կերտի իր հաղթական ապագան։
Սիրելի բարեպաշտ ժողովուրդ, այս նվիրական օրը միասիրտ աղոթքով հայցենք մեր սուրբնահատակների բարեխոսությունը, որ հարուցյալ Քրիստոսի շնորհների և օրհնության ներքո խաղաղ, անվտանգ ու բարօր լինեն մեր հայրենիքն ու ազգը, և մենք հավատով ու հույսով հաստատենք մերընթացքը ապահովության ու առաջընթացի շավիղներում:
