The new PBS documentary on the Armenian Genocide, THE HIDDEN MAP, will air in the New York and New Jersey markets on July 10, 14 and 16. Watch the special 90-minute broadcast on these channels:

Following its popular nationwide PBS premiere in hundreds of U.S. cities in June, The Hidden Map, a gripping documentary that takes viewers deep into the forbidden Armenian past of Turkey to reveal the continuing story,  has been scheduled to air four more times this month in New Jersey and New York, the #1 public television market in the U.S. The story comes to life as an Armenian-American granddaughter of genocide survivors ventures to their lost ancestral homeland in search of long-buried truths. A chance encounter with a Scottish explorer leads to a joint odyssey beneath the surface of modern-day Turkey,  unearthing sacred relics, silenced voices, daring resilience and the hidden map. The result is a story of discovery, heartbreak and hope that belongs to all of humanity.  The Hidden Map, which took four trips and seven years to complete, was directed, produced, written and edited by Ani Hovannisian.

The 90-minute broadcast includes not only the film, but eye-opening in-studio conversations with filmmaker Ani Hovannisian and opportunities for viewers to show their support to PBS. Viewers who pledge even a nominal amount to support PBS’s broadcasts of The Hidden Map will not only help secure additional airings on a national stage, but will receive unique mementos, including The Hidden Map DVD,  postcards of historic Western Armenia and exclusive hand-crocheted dolls made in Goris, Armenia. Some of the women making the one-of-a-kind dolls are displaced citizens of Artsakh working to rebuild their lives. Watch, support, and help bring this Armenian and human story into the homes of millions of Americans.

The Cultural Committee of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church (Providence, RI) will continue its popular online series, “Armenian Cultural Hour” on Friday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. This week’s program is titled: “Etchmiadzin: A Musical Celebrating the Cultural Wealth of the Armenian Church, and Birth of Christian Nation.” Click the link to watch the livestream on the parish Facebook page (accessible even if you don’t have a personal Facebook account). Sts. Vartanantz Church of Chelmsford, MA, will hold its annual picnic on Sunday, Aug. 7, 12-6 p.m., at the church (180 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford). Armenian food & pastries; children’s activities; live music & dancing with to the Jason Naroian Ensemble. In the event of rain, picnic will be in the Kazanjian Memorial Ballroom.
