St. Vartan Cathedral will revive an old Armenian custom as it inaugurates a monthly “Prayers for Healing” service. The gathering aims to heal body, mind, and soul through prayer, music, Scripture-reading, and blessing with holy water. The first Prayers for Healing service will meet on Wednesday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m., in the cathedral (630 Second Ave., New York). The Eastern Diocese’s Krikor and Clara Zohrab Information Center will welcome scholar Asya Darbinyan on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m., for a presentation on “Mass Population Movement, Humanitarian Emergency, and Armenian Refugee Assistance at the Caucasus Front of World War I,” in Guild Hall of the Diocesan Center (630 Second Ave., New York). This is the first Enrichment Evening of 2019, inaugurating the Zohrab Center’s series of lectures on the timely topic of Migration. The annual gathering of youth from Oriental Orthodox churches will take place on Saturday, Dec. 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Mor Aphrem Center in Paramus, NJ. The event is sponsored by the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Youth Association (SCOOYA). Diocesan Primate Fr. Daniel Findikyan will attend with the leaders of our sister Oriental Orthodox churches, to engage in an open-dialogue with participants. The conference theme is “Born A Stranger: Young and Orthodox in America,” and will include a presentation by Fr. Tateos Abadalian (host of the Diocese’s online video series, Choices).
