VEMKAR, the Diocese’s educational initiative, will hold its third “Live Session” based on its pilot module, Christ as Healer. This week’s edition is an online “Service of Healing” streamed live from New York’s St. Vartan Cathedral, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. EDT. St. Thomas Church (Tenafly, NJ) will begin the 2020-21 Kirikian Armenian School season, for all grades, with remote learning. Lessons in all subjects will be taught via the interactive Zoom platform, as well as other distance learning methods. Classes run Saturdays, September to June; the entire regular curriculum will be covered, with double sections for every grade level for Armenian-speaking and non-Armenian-speaking students (additional Armenian conversation instruction is provided for the latter). In addition to the main school, a new Western Armenian conversation class is being offered online through Zoom, open to children, youths, and adults, and taught by a specialized instructor. The Cultural Committee of Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church (Providence, RI) will hold its latest “Meet with Armenian Doctors” presentation on Friday, Aug. 21, at 7:30 p.m., via the Zoom video conference platform and Facebook Live. St. Leon Church (Fair Lawn, NJ) will hold a 4-week multi-media seminar, “Apologies, Non-Apologies, and Reparations: A Global Perspective,” that explores current issues about confronting racism and injustice. Prof. Khatchig Mouradian (Columbia U.) will lead the four 75-minute sessions, surveying research in the fields of history, sociology, linguistics, philosophy, political science, and psychology. Classes will be held on the Zoom video conference platform at 7 p.m. EDT; the seminar for adults, college and high school students meets on Wednesday evenings (Aug. 26; Sep. 2, 9, 16).
