WATCH: Thanksgiving Blessings from Our Primate

In a special video message for Thanksgiving, Diocesan Primate Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan speaks to the faithful from his heart, on the Power of Gratitude.

“Soon, we will be gathering with our loved ones,” says Bishop Mesrop, “to celebrate that most meaningful of American holidays: Thanksgiving. And I invite you to reflect on the great theme of this day.  It sounds so simple; but it has such profound implications: The Power of Gratitude.

“In our daily life, it’s so easy to focus on what we lack—and overlook what we have. Wherever we look, we’re told to seek ‘more, more, more….’

“But what about the blessings that are already present in your life? Sadly, too many people in our world take those blessings for granted. And that lack of thankfulness takes them down a negative path of envy … greed … dissatisfaction.

“Yet just pause to express gratitude for your blessings—and watch something miraculous happen.

“Your whole outlook changes. Instead of negativity and discontent, your heart is filled with peace and serenity. And this emotional shift is not just a matter of psychology: It’s a spiritual reality. It’s a way of awakening to God’s positive presence in your life. As the Apostle Paul put it: ‘Give thanks in every circumstance; for this is God’s will for you—in Jesus Christ’ (1 Thes 5:18).

“But my friends, the power of gratitude is not just a solitary act. In fact, when you share it with others, it becomes even more powerful.

“So this week, when you get together to celebrate Thanksgiving, extend your gratitude outward. Let your loved ones know that you’re grateful for them. Join with them in giving thanks—together—for the blessed community that sustains us all. Give thanks for the chance to serve each other, and to be served in turn.

“Giving thanks as a community fosters that serene spirit of unity—that all of us need so desperately in these divisive times.”

The Primate concludes: “Let that spirit nourish our hearts this Thanksgiving. Give thanks to the Lord. Share that gratitude with those around you. And enrich your life with the Divine Peace that transcends understanding.”
