Primate Returns to New York City to Complete Rehabilitation

The Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America is pleased to announce that our Diocesan Primate, Fr. Mesrop Parsamyan, has returned to New York City to complete his rehabilitation. The happy news was released in the September 29, 2022 edition of the Diocesan newsletter.

Fr. Parsamyan sustained injuries in an auto accident on July 16. Since that time, he has been treated by a top team of specialists at Albany Medical Center, where he underwent several surgeries on his legs. Subsequently, he spent a number of weeks at a nearby rehabilitation center until it was possible to transfer him to a facility in Manhattan.

We give thanks to Fr. Stepanos and Yn. Paulette Doudoukjian, and the entire parish of St. Peter Church in Watervliet, NY, who tended to Fr. Mesrop and made him feel at home during this time. Likewise, we are deeply appreciative for the physicians, surgeons, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals who have given their talents, and generously offered consultation, throughout the process.

The members of the Diocesan Council and administration, in particular Diocesan Vicar Fr. Simeon Odabashian and interim Administrator Fr. Davit Karamyan, have our gratitude for all their special efforts working with Fr. Mesrop during this period. Fr. Karamyan has been especially instrumental in overseeing his medical care and transfer to New York City.

Thank you, too, to all the kind souls who continue to send their good wishes, encouragement, and prayers for the recovery of our Primate.

Fr. Mesrop’s recovery is not yet complete, and there is rehab work still to be done before he can begin to travel. But we are greatly heartened by this important milestone on the road to healing. While he has been actively engaged in the administration of the Diocese throughout the past weeks, Fr. Mesrop’s presence now in New York City, and his accessibility to the Diocesan Center, is a great relief and blessing which has been long anticipated. Praise be to God.

Please keep praying for Hayr Sourp, and for all our people, and join us in welcoming him back to Manhattan.
