Mid-Atlantic Clergy Gather for Continuing Education

This season’s second “Clergy Continuing Education Gathering” convened on September 27-28—this time bringing together clergy from the Diocese’s Mid-Atlantic region, at the Ararat Youth and Conference Center in Greenville, NY.

As with the Midwestern gathering earlier this month, Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian delivered a quartet of thought-provoking lectures, delving into his work as a Biblical scholar to discuss the Armenian church’s Scriptural canon, the intention of the Biblical authors, the meaning of Scripture for people today, and the use of the Bible in sermons.

A visitor from the Brotherhood of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, Fr. Harutyun Damadian, attended the retreat along with clergy from Diocesan parishes in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Fr. Harutyun is currently attending classes at St. Nersess Seminary, at the request of the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, His Beatitude Archbishop Sahak Mashalian, and with the blessings of Diocesan Primate Fr. Mesrop Parsamyan.

The final Continuing Education program will be held for clergy of the New England region on October 11-14.
