My Beloved People:
St. Matthew’s Gospel tells the story of a boy brought before Jesus for a miraculous cure. Our Lord recognizes the boy’s affliction as a kind of demonic possession, and he expels the evil power to restore the poor boy’s tranquility of spirit. The disciples wonder why they had been ineffective in their earlier ministry to the boy, and Jesus explains that their faith was insufficient to the task.
But then he adds: “Some demons can only be cast out by prayer and fasting” (Mt 17:21).
That last verse is absent from some modern translations of the Bible. But it is there in the Armenian Bible—as a guide to all who struggle with casting destructive evil out of their lives.
Our entire nation is now enduring such a struggle: a life-or-death fight to expel a force of destruction and evil from our homeland. And in this tense time, as we seek guidance from the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, his counsel about the power of prayer and fasting take on a special urgency.
Therefore, I am designating Friday, October 30, as “A Day of Prayer and Fasting” in the Eastern Diocese. I exhort all of our faithful people to fast from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, for the sake of peace and justice in Artsakh and Armenia.
During that 18-hour period, I ask that people refrain from all food and drink—except water. (Naturally, you should keep to the fast as best you can, considering your health and personal circumstances.)
Throughout the day, people should pray frequently, and fervently—ideally every hour. Ask the Lord to bestow peace and justice on Artsakh, Armenia, and the world.
The most critical factor is that all of our people participate in this expression of our faith in action. Our entire Diocese will be united in hope for the peace that only Christ can bestow.
Please join me this Friday, October 30, as we take up a spiritual struggle to help free our holy homeland from the evil powers afflicting it. May our Lord bless you, and strengthen all our people.

ԱՅՍ ՈՒՐԲԱԹ ՄԻԱՑԷՔ ԻՆԾԻ ԱՂՕԹՔԻեւ ԾՈՄԱՊԱՀՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՕՐՈՒԱՆ
Սիրելի Իմ Ժողովուրդ,
Սուրբ Մատթէոսի աւետարանէն կը կարդանքտղու մըմասին, որ Յիսուսի մօտ բերուած էրբուժման հրաշքը տեսնելու համար: Մեր Տէրը զգալով տղեկինտառապանքը, իր մէջ բոյն դրած սատանայական չար ուժը, կը վանէ չար ուժը,խեղճ տղունհոգիինանդորրը վերականգնելով: Երբ աշակերտները զարմանալով հարց կու տան թէինչո՞ւ իրենց ջանքերն ու միջամտութիւնը ապարդիւն մնացած էին, Յիսուսկը բացատրէ, որ իրենց հաւատքը անբաւարար էր նմանառաջադրանքի համար: Բայց յետոյկ՛աւելցնէ. «Որոշ դեւեր կարելի էվտարել միայն աղօթքովեւծոմ պահելով» (Մատթ. 17:21):
Այդ վերջին համարը ժամանակակից թարգմանութիւններուն մէջ չկան։ Բայց այդ տողերը կանԱստուածաշունչին Հայերէն թարգմանութեանմէջ՝ որպէս ուղեցոյց բոլոր անոնց համար, որոնք կըպայքարին իրենց կեանքէնկործանարար չարիքը վանելու:
Համայն Հայ ժողովուրդը այժմ դէմ հանդիման կը գտնուի կեանքի ու մահուան նման պայքարի մէջ՝ կործանումի չարիքը մեր երկրէն վտարելու համար։ Այս լարուած ու ճգնաժամային պահուն մեր Տէր Յիսուս Քրիստոսի խօսքերուն հետեւելով աղօթքի եւ ծոմապահութեան խորհուրդին զօրութեան կ՛ապաւինինք։
Ուստի, այս Ուրբաթ՝ Հոկտեմբեր 30-ը կը նշանակեմ «Աղօթքիեւծոմ պահելու օր»։ Արեւելեան թեմի մեր բոլոր հաւատացեալ ժողովուրդին կը յորդորեմ, կոչ կ՛ուղղեմ, որ ծոմ պահեն կէս գիշերէն սկսեալ մինչեւ Ուրբաթ երեկոյեան 6-ը, յանուն արդարութեան եւ խաղաղութեան Հայաստան եւ Արցախ աշխարհին համար։
Խնդրանքս է որ այս 18ժամուայ ընթացքին մենք փորձենք հեռու մնալ ամէն տեսակի ուտելիքէ եւ ըմպելիներէ- բացի ջուրէն- բնականաբար նկատի առնելով անձնական առողջապահական հանգամանքները։
Օրուայ ընթացքին մարդիկ ջանան սրտանց ու ջերմեռանդօրէն յաճախ աղօթել-իտէալական է՝ եթէ կարելի ըլլայ ամէն ժամ- խնդրելու համար Աստուծմէ որ խաղաղութիւն ու արդարութիւն շնորհէ Արցախին, Հայաստանին եւ Աշխարհին։
Ամենակարեւոր գործօնն այն է, որ հաւատքի մեր ա՛յս արտայայտութեանհամար համայն մեր ժողովուրդը մասնակցի միահամուռ կերպով: Մեր ամբողջ թեմը միաւորուած կ՛ըլլայվճռական յոյսով այն խաղաղութեան համար, որ միմիայն Քրիստոսը կրնայշնորհել:
Կը խնդրեմ,միացէք ինծիայս Ուրբաթ, Հոկտեմբեր 30-ին, քանի որ մենք հոգեւոր պայքար է ու կը մղենքօգնելու եւ ազատելումեր սուրբ հայրենիքը իրեն սպառնացող չար ուժերէն: Թող մեր Տէրը օրհնէձեզ եւզօրացնէմեր համայնժողովուրդը,
