On September 21, Armenian Independence Day, a special prayer service for the Republic of Armenia went forward at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, presided over by His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
Marking the 35th anniversary of Armenia’s independence referendum, the clergy of Etchmiadzin’s monastic brotherhood offered prayers for peace and security for the Armenian people throughout the world.
Later in the day, the Catholicos of All Armenians visited Armenia’s Yerablur military cemetery, where he paid tribute to the memory of those who gave their lives for the protection of the homeland and independence. His Holiness led a large group of clergy, faithful, and military families in a requiem service, and then laid flowers on the gravesites.

On Armenian Independence Day: September 21, 2026
From the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, We extend Our Pontifical blessing to our people in the homeland and the Diaspora and offer congratulations on the occasion of Independence Day.
Today, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the re-establishment of Armenian independent statehood. Throughout these years, our homeland has endured numerous trials; yet, our people have never faltered or lost hope. Even at the cost of great sacrifice, they have continued the sacred mission of nation-building and dedicated their potential to the national awakening.
Independence Day serves as a call for us to re-evaluate the path we have traversed and the course of our lives. In today’s complex circumstances, it is more essential than ever to remain united and stand together around the homeland, so that we may successfully confront internal and external threats. Empowered by the spirit of Independence Day, let us devote ourselves wholeheartedly to building up and brightening our country, and let us defend—with the utmost zeal and responsibility—our people’s right to a free and secure life on this sacred land. Let us hold fast to the hope, faith, and love bestowed by Christ; remain faithful to our national and spiritual values; and together forge a just, law-abiding, and harmonious society for the sake of our secure and bright future.
We offer prayers to God, asking that He preserve our homeland in peace, guide our people with the wisdom of His Holy Spirit, and grant us a life of prosperity and progress. Amen.

Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնից Հայրապետական Մեր օրհնությունն ենք բերում մեր ժողովրդին ի հայրենիս և ի սփյուռս և շնորհավորում Անկախության տոնի առիթով։
Այսօր տոնախմբում ենք հայոց անկախ պետականության վերահաստատման 35-րդ տարեդարձը։ Այս տարիների ընթացքում մեր հայրենիքն անցել է բազում փորձությունների միջով, սակայն մեր ժողովուրդը երբեք չի ընկճվել, չի հուսահատվել, մեծ զոհողությունների գնով անգամ շարունակել է հայրենաշինության սրբազան առաքելությունը և իր ներուժը ծառայեցրել ազգային զարթոնքին։
Անկախության տոնն այսօր հրավեր է մեզ վերարժևորելու անցած ուղին և մեր կյանքի ընթացքը։ Ներկայիս բարդ պայմաններում, առավել քան երբևէ, անհրաժեշտ է լինել միասնական և մնալ համախմբված հայրենիքի շուրջ, որպեսզի կարողանանք դիմագրավել ներքին ու արտաքին սպառնալիքներին։ Անկախության տոնական օրվա խորհրդով զորացած՝ անմնացորդ նվիրումով շենացնենք ու պայծառացնենք մեր երկիրը և ամենայն նախանձախնդրությամբ ու պատասխանատվությամբ պաշտպանենք մեր ժողովրդի ազատ ու անվտանգ կյանքի իրավունքը այս սրբազան հողի վրա։ Ամուր պահենք Քրիստոսավանդ հույսը, հավատն ու սերը, հավատարիմ մնանք ազգային-հոգևոր մեր արժեքներին և միասնաբար կերտենք արդար, օրինահարգ, համերաշխ հասարակություն՝ հանուն մեր ապահով ու լուսավոր ապագայի։
