The fourth annual “Yn. Diane Chevian Memorial Youth Choir Workshop” ran from July 9 to 13 at St. Nersess Seminary in Armonk, NY, welcoming 24 talented youth from parishes across the Eastern Diocese. The intensive, five-day program provided participants with a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Armenian Church’s sacred music, and develop their vocal and liturgical skills.
Directed by Fr. Haroutiun Sabounjian (pastor of Holy Resurrection Church in New Britain, CT) and assisted by his wife Yn. Lucine, the workshop was led by a team of clergy and musicians, including Fr. Hovhan Khoja-Eynatyan (pastor of St. James Church in Evanston, IL), Ephi Kastanas, Emily Terjimanian, and counselors Serien Keleshian and David Marottolo. Seminary dean Fr. Mardiros Chevian supported the directors and staff.
On July 10, the group was joined by Diocesan Primate Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan, who sang alongside the young choir members, and offered his reflections on serving in the church. “Remember, when you use your gifts to honor God, He will open doors you never imagined! Keep shining, keep singing, and know that God’s favor is upon you,” he said.
The program concluded with a Sunday Divine Liturgy, celebrated by Fr. Khoja-Eynatyan, where the students served as the choir. A hokehankisd service was offered in memory of Yn. Diane Chevian, honoring the workshop’s namesake and inspiration.
Fr. Haroutiun Sabounjian reflected on the spiritual impact of the week. “Each year I am amazed at how these young people, with varying musical backgrounds, come together after only a few days to sing the Divine Liturgy in harmony. I truly believe the Holy Spirit is at work, transforming their efforts into something holy. Yn. Diane would be so proud of this extraordinary group.”

Տաղանդաւոր Երիտասարդ Երաժիշտներ
Սբ. Ներսէս Ընծայարանին մէջ, Արմոնք – Նիւ Եորք, յուլիս ամսուն 9-էն մինչեւ 13 տեղի ունեցաւ “Երէցկին Տայէն Չեվեանի Յիշատակին Երիտասարդ Դպիրներու Վարժոց”ի ընթացքը: Արեւելեան Թեմէն 24 տաղանդաւոր երիտասարդ դպիրներ մասնակցեցան հնգօրեայ խտացած յայտագիրին, ստանալով խորացած ծանօթութիւն հայ սրբազան երաժշտութեան, ինչպէս նաեւ ձայնավարժութեան եւ ծիսական գիտելիքներու մասին յառաջադէմ հրահանգում:
Յուլիս 10-ին, Մեսրոպ եպիսկոպոս Պարսամեան, Առաջնորդ Սրբազան Հայրը, միացաւ երիտասարդ դպիրներուն, անոնց հետ երգելով եւ փոխանցելով անոնց իր հոգեւոր պատգամը ի նպաստ եկեղեցւոյ սպասաւորութեան: “Յիշեցէք, ըսաւ ան, ամէն անգամ որ ձեր ձիրքերը ի գործ կը դնէք պատուելու համար Աստուած, ձեր մտքէն իսկ չանցած դռներ կը բանայ Ան: Շարունակեցէք պայծառ շողալ, շարունակեցէք երգել, եւ գիտցէք որ Աստուծոյ հաճութիւնը ձեր վրայ կ’իջնէ:”
Յայտագիրը փակուեցաւ կիրակի օր՝ ձայնաւոր պատարագով, զոր մատոյց Տէր Յովհան Խոճա-Էյնատեան, եւ երիտասարդները խորանին սպասարկեցին եւ դպրութիւնը կատարեցին: Հոգեհանգստեան արարողութիւնը կատարուեցաւ ի յիշատակ Երէցկին Տայէն Չեվեանի:
Տէր Յարութիւն Սապունճեան, որ վարիչն էր յայտագիրին, խորհրդածեց շաբթուան հոգեւոր ազդեցութեան մասին. “Ամէն տարի կը հիանամ ինչպէս այս երիտասարդները, իրենց տարբեր երաժշտական գիտելիքներով, կարող են մէկ քանի օրուայ ընթացքին արդէն ներդաշնակօրէն կատարել Սուրբ Պատարագին երգեցողութիւնը: Իսկապէս կը հաւատամ, որ Սուրբ Հոգին կը ներգործէ, անոնց աշխատանքը փոխարկելով սուրբ իրականութեան: Երէցկին Տայէն հպարտ պիտի ըլլար այս բացառիկ երիտասարդներով:”
