From an Online Workshop to an In-Person Summer

On Saturday, January 15, staff of the Diocese’s Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries joined directors of the Diocesan Camps for a day of training and preparation for Hye Camp and St. Vartan Camp. Counselors-in-Training and camp staff from across the Diocese took part in the online Winter Training Workshop.

This day-long video conference began with a morning service led by Diocesan Primate Bishop Daniel, who offered an inspiring message for camp leaders that rallied their spirits for the 2022 camp season—which will once again go forward as an in-person program.

During the online workshop, camp directors focused on the topic of “servant leadership,” relating how camp staff can be stronger leaders when they serve with humble hearts.

Participants also held a discussion on faith, mental health, and how to bring one’s best efforts to the camp sessions. The workshop concluded with reflections on how each person is called to work together to Build Up the Body of Christ. Scattered throughout the day were opportunities to develop leadership skills, foster friendships, and generally build a spirit of teamwork.

“The Winter Training Workshop gave us a jump-start on strengthening our camp leadership,” said Kathryn Ashbahian of the Youth and Young Adult Ministries department. “It was valuable to gather like this, in preparation for welcoming our campers back to their beloved camp next summer.”

Details about online camp registration will be announced in the coming weeks. Click the following link to view photos of the workshop.
