To mark Armenian Forces Day in Armenia on January 28, 2023, His Holiness Karekin II led special services honoring the memories of Armenia’s departed war heroes, and praying for the safety of the soldiers who defend Armenia today.
At the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, in a chapel dedicated to St. Vartan and St. John the Baptist, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians led members of the Holy Etchmiadzin Brotherhood in prayer for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. Later, Catholicos Karekin II led clergy to Yerablur Military Cemetery, where he laid wreaths and flowers over the graves of departed heroes.

On Armenian Armed Forces Day
On the occasion of the Day of the Armenian Army, from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we bring our Patriarchal blessing and best wishes to the officers and soldiers of the Armenian Army and to all our people.
The Armenian army was formed during the years of reestablishment of our independence, became the bulwark and guardian of the revived Armenian statehood, the guarantor of the peaceful and safe life of our people. With the brave deeds of our brave commanders and soldiers, as well as with the struggle of our people supporting the army, the world of Artsakh was liberated, and the Armenians of Artsakh had the opportunity to build their independent life.
The disastrous 44-day Artsakh war, the encroachments on Armenia’s borders in September of last year, the challenges faced and the most serious defense issues have put our country and people in front of new imperatives. In this difficult situation, the modernization of the army in accordance with the standards and requirements of the time is of primary and urgent importance. It is primary and urgent to bring together all the national potential so that the Armenian Army can quickly overcome the disastrous consequences caused by the war, heal the wounds and pains of irreparable losses, and avoid such tragedies as we experienced weeks ago. We believe that the Armenian army will find its way to glory and can be indomitable and victorious in fulfilling its sacred mission.
We pray from the bottom of our hearts for all the brave men who accepted the crown of martyrdom for the defense of the motherland. We ask the Heavenly One to give comfort to the souls broken by losses and sorrows. May the Almighty God grant His protection and support to the valiant soldiers and commanding staff of the Armenian Army, peace and prosperity to our homeland Armenia and Artsakh and our people around the world.

ՀԱՅՈՑ ԲԱՆԱԿԻ ՕՐՎԱ ԱՌԻԹՈՎ
Մայր Աթոռ Սուրբ Էջմիածնից Հայոց բանակի օրվա առիթով Հայրապետական Մեր օրհնությունն ու բարեմաղթանքն ենք բերում Հայոց բանակի սպաներին ու զինվորներին և համայն մեր ժողովրդին:
Հայոց բանակը կազմավորվեց մեր անկախության վերահաստատման տարիներին, դարձավ պատվարն ու պահապանը հայոց վերածնյալ պետականության, երաշխավորը մեր ժողովրդի խաղաղ ու անվտանգ կյանքի: Մեր խիզախ զորավարների ու զինվորների քաջագործություններով, նաև բանակին սատարող մեր ժողովրդի պայքարով ազատագրվեց Արցախ աշխարհը, և արցախահայությունը իր անկախ կյանքը կառուցելու հնարավորությունն ունեցավ։
Արցախյան 44-օրյա աղետալի պատերազմը, անցյալ տարվա սեպտեմբերին Հայաստանի սահմանների նկատմամբ ոտնձգությունները, հառնած մարտահրավերները և պաշտպանական լրջագույն հիմնահարցերը նոր հրամայականների առջև են կանգնեցրել մեր երկիրն ու ժողովրդին։ Այս ծանր իրավիճակում առաջնային և հրատապ է բանակի արդիականացումը՝ ժամանակի չափանիշներին ու պահանջներին համապատասխան։ Առաջնային և հրատապ է ազգային ողջ ներուժի համախմբումը, որպեսզի Հայոց բանակը շուտափույթ հաղթահարի պատերազմի պատճառած աղետալի հետևանքները, ամոքում գտնեն անդառնալի կորուստների վերքերն ու ցավերը, և բացառվեն այնպիսի ողբերգություններ, որ ապրեցինք շաբաթներ առաջ։ Հավատում ենք, որ Հայոց բանակը պիտի վերագտնի փառքի իր ճանապարհը և կարող լինի աննկուն ու հաղթական իրագործել իր սրբազան առաքելությունը:
Ի խորոց սրտի աղոթում ենք հայրենիքի պաշտպանության համար նահատակության պսակն ընդունած բոլոր քաջորդիների համար։ Հայցում ենք Երկնավորից, որ մխիթարություն պարգևի կորուստներից ու վշտերից բեկված հոգիներին: Թող Ամենակալն Աստված Իր պահպանությունն ու զորակցությունը շնորհի Հայոց բանակի քաջարի զինվորներին ու հրամանատարական կազմին, խաղաղություն ու բարօրություն՝ Հայաստան ու Արցախ մեր հայրենիքին և աշխարհասփյուռ մեր ժողովրդին։
