Message of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians
On the Republic of Artsakh Independence Day
Today, September 2, is the Day of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Artsakh. We meet it with the hope of comforting our losses, and with unwavering faith in God’s support.
On the threshold of the thirtieth anniversary of Artsakh independence, in 2020-2023, tragic events occurred that shocked our people. As a result of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan and its genocidal acts, the Armenian land of Artsakh is occupied, and Armenians have been forcibly exiled from their thousand-year-old homeland.
Thousands of our sons and daughters have fallen for the Motherland, sanctuaries are desecrated and destroyed, and Artsakh’s military-political leadership is still held captive.
On this sacred day, we bow our heads in loving memory of our brave soldiers who offered the ultimate sacrifice: who gave their lives for the independence of Artsakh and the safety of the Armenian people.
We offer fervent prayers to God, asking for the swift return of all our captive and missing children, and for peace and prosperity for our country and our people.
We deeply appreciate the efforts of all countries and international organizations that continue to direct their forces to overcome the harsh consequences of the tragic war in Artsakh, and to establish a strong and lasting peace in the region, free from threats and coercion.
This anniversary of the independence of the Artsakh Republic is an appropriate occasion to reaffirm the commitment of our people to the idea of peace, to reject defeatist sentiments, and to meet with dignity the challenges and trials facing our homeland.
We convey our Patriarchal call, with the support of the international community, to redouble efforts to protect the rights of the exiled people of Artsakh, preserve the centuries-old Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage, and return our captive sons to their homeland.
Let us unite to strengthen and consolidate our statehood, for the integrity of our country. Let us preserve our Armenian identity and the authenticity of our national values, fixing our gaze unflinchingly on a hopeful, bright, and graceful future.
We pray that, by the grace of God, justice will prevail, and all the children of our people will live in peace, prosperity, and spiritual fulfillment. May God bless our country and people, in Armenia and in the diaspora. Amen.

Ուղերձը Արցախի Հանրապետության Անկախության Օրվա Առիթով
Այսօր սեպտեմբերի 2-ն է՝ Արցախի Հանրապետության անկախության հռչակման օրը, որը դիմավորում ենք մեր կրած կորուստներից ամոքման հույսով, Աստծո զորակցության հավատով։
Արցախի անկախության երեսուներորդ տարեդարձի նախասեմին՝ 2020-2023 թվականներին, ողբերգական իրադարձություններ ծավալվեցին։ Ադրբեջանի սանձազերծած պատերազմի և ցեղասպանական գործողությունների հետևանքով բռնազավթվեց և ամբողջապես հայաթափվեց հայոց Արցախ աշխարհը, հազարավոր հայորդիներ զոհվեցին, պղծվեցին ու ոչնչացվեցին բազմաթիվ սրբավայրեր, և մինչ այսօր Բաքվում շարունակում են պատանդ մնալ Արցախի պետական այրեր և զինվորականներ։
Այս նվիրական օրը մեր խոնարհումն ենք բերում Արցախի անկախության, արցախահայության ապահովության համար ամենաթանկագինը՝ իրենց կյանքն ընծայած մեր քաջորդիների հիշատակի առաջ։
Մեր աղոթքն ենք բարձրացնում առ Աստված՝ հայցելով շուտափույթ վերադարձ գերյալ և անհայտ կորած մեր զավակներին, խաղաղություն մեր երկրին ու ժողովրդին։
Բարձր ենք գնահատում բոլոր երկրների և միջազգային կառույցների ջանքերը, որոնք շարունակվում են ուղղված մնալ Արցախի ողբերգական պատերազմի ծանր հետևանքների հաղթահարմանը, տարածաշրջանում սպառնալիքներ ու պարտադրանք բացառող կայուն և երկարատև խաղաղության հաստատմանը։
Արցախի Հանրապետության անկախության տարեդարձը հիշարժան առիթ է՝ արտահայտելու խաղաղության գաղափարին մեր ժողովրդի նվիրվածությունը, թոթափելու նաև հարմարվողական ու պարտվողական տրամադրությունները՝ արժանապատվորեն հաղթահարելու համար մեր երկրի առջև ծառացած մարտահրավերներն ու փորձությունները։
Հայրապետական մեր հորդորն է, որ բազմապատկենք մեր ջանքերը՝ միջազգային հանրության աջակցությամբ պաշտպանելու Արցախի մեր տեղահանված ժողովրդի իրավունքները, ոչնչացումից փրկելու հայկական հոգևոր-մշակութային բազմադարյա ժառանգությունը և հայրենիք վերադարձնելու գերեվարված մեր զավակներին։
Համախմբվենք հանուն մեր պետականության զորացման ու ամրապնդման, մեր երկրի տարածքային ամբողջականության անխախտելիության պահպանման։ Անաղարտ պահենք հայկական մեր ինքնությունն ու ազգային արժեքները՝ հուսառատ մեր հայացքը միշտ ուղղելով դեպի մեր կյանքի շնորհաբեր ապագան։
Աղոթում ենք, որ Աստծո ողորմությամբ վերականգնվի արդարությունը, և մեր ազգի զավակներն ապրեն խաղաղության ու բարօրության մեջ: Թող Աստված պահապան լինի մեր երկրին ու ժողովրդին ի Հայաստան և ի Սփյուռս: Ամեն:
