An International Conference on Artsakh

An International Conference on Artsakh

On November 11-13, an international conference on the political and cultural security of Artsakh went forward in Los Angeles, CA, organized by the Armenian Church’s Western Diocese of North America, and its Artsakh Heritage Committee.

Under the auspices of Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese, and with the blessing and support of His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the event—titled “Nagorno-Karabakh: Today and Tomorrow”—brought together experts on cultural preservation, geopolitics, diplomacy, and law from across the globe.

Participants emphasized the horrors and ongoing consequences of the 2020 Artsakh war, as well as the eruptions of Azeri aggression against the Republic of Armenia. They highlighted the critical importance of protecting the living Armenian cultural heritage in Artsakh, both in terms of preserving its historic material culture as well as the ensuring a secure and flourishing way of life for the Armenians of Arstakh.

A communiqué released at the conclusion summarized recommendations for next steps emerging from the conference. It also expressed solidarity with our brave Armenian countrymen living through these critical times. “As conference participants from around the world, we are deeply moved and inspired by the faith and resilience of the Armenian people in Nagorno-Karabakh,” the communiqué asserts.
