A Second Day of Fasting and Prayer on Nov. 6

Bishop Daniel has designated Friday, November 6 as a second “Day of Prayer and Fasting” for all the faithful of the Eastern Diocese. Read his announcement here.

My Dear People:

I want to thank all of you who took part in our Diocesan-wide “Day of Fasting and Prayer” last Friday. In the days since October 30, we’ve heard from many people throughout our local communities who found the experience of intense dedication to prayer an extremely uplifting spiritual experience—all the more so because it was being done in the great cause of praying for peace and justice in Artsakh and Armenia.

Of course, the struggle of our homeland continues, as does the role of spiritual support we are called to play. Therefore, I am designating a second “A Day of Prayer and Fasting” in the Eastern Diocese for Friday, November 6.

Once again, I exhort all of our faithful people to fast from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, for the sake of peace and justice in Artsakh and Armenia. This time, I am happy to report, several other Armenian Church dioceses throughout the world will be joining us in this special day.

During that 18-hour period, I ask that people refrain from all food and drink—except water. (Naturally, you should keep to the fast as best you can, considering your health and personal circumstances.) Those who are unable to engage in a full day fast as described above might consider fasting for a few hours; or perhaps forgoing social media, cell phones, television, gaming—any activity that distracts from prayer—for the duration of the fasting period.

I want to add that the call to fast is intended for our adult faithful; but if teens wish to join in they should do so only with the blessing of their parents.

Throughout the day, people should pray frequently, and fervently—ideally every hour. Ask the Lord to bestow peace and justice on Artsakh, Armenia, and the world. Resources to aid you in your prayers and fasting—including an article on the deep spiritual meaning of fasting—can be found at following link: click here.

As before, the most critical factor is that all of our people participate in this expression of our faith in action. Our entire Diocese—along with several sister dioceses—will be united in hope for the peace that only Christ can bestow.

So please join me again this Friday, November 6, as we resume the spiritual struggle to help free our holy homeland from the evil powers afflicting it. May our Lord bless you, and strengthen all our people.

With my prayers,

Bishop DANIEL
Primate
