The International Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic and Oriental Orthodox Churches has released its report for the group’s 14th annual meeting, which took place in Rome, January 22-27, 2017. The Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity hosted the gathering.
Charlotte Parish Welcomes Primate
From February 3 to 5, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, visited St. Sarkis Church of Charlotte, NC. The Primate’s visit included a number of meetings with community members and the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday.
Abp. Aykazaian Tours Devastated Christian Communities in Iraq with World Council of Churches
Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, Diocesan Legate and Ecumenical Director, took part in a delegation of church leaders visiting Iraq from January 20 to 24. The visit was organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and included meetings with political leaders, United Nations representatives, humanitarian aid workers, refugees, and local Christian leaders in Baghdad and the northern Kurdistan region.

ACYOA Chapter Workshop Held in Houston

From January 20 to 22, more than 40 young adults from 16 parishes across the Eastern Diocese gathered at St. Kevork Church in Houston, TX for the annual ACYOA Seniors Chapter Workshop. Organized by the ACYOA Central Council, the weekend focused on finding ways to strengthen local ACYOA chapters. The Rev. Fr. Martiros Hakobyan, pastor of St. Kevork Church, served as the weekend’s chaplain.
