In Memoriam: Dn. Sebuh Oscherician (1957-2026)

The Eastern Diocese was deeply grieved by the passing of Deacon Sebuh Oscherician, devoted servant of the Armenian Church, the Diocese, and St. Nersess Seminary, and a beloved friend to all in our community. He passed away on January 15, at the age of 68.

Dn. Sebuh was a rare soul: kind, pious, and brave, who found genuine joy in helping people. He was educated, and began his vocation, at the seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin, and as a native of Romania he was always proud to have come from the birthplace of Catholicos Vasken I, of blessed memory.

The great pillar of Dn. Sebuh’s character was his devotion to God and Jesus Christ. He considered it a profound privilege to serve on the holy altar as a deacon, and his fellow altar servers accorded him the greatest respect and admiration.

But Sebuh’s identity as a deacon of the church did not end in the sanctuary; he brought it with him everywhere he went. To him, being part of the diaconate was a divine calling to serve others, eagerly and unselfishly, in whatever way would be most helpful to those around him.

God blessed Sebuh with the perfect partner in his life, in the person of his dear wife Rita. They truly complemented each other, bringing out the best in one another. Sebuh loved his family from the very depths of his heart, and he was blessed to have that love returned by his children and grandchildren.

At this time our sympathies go to his beloved wife, Margherita; his daughters Cristina and Jennifer; his grandsons Anthony and Austin; his siblings Constantin, Mihaela, Ovidiu, Liviu, Silvia, Felicia, Claudia, and Bogdan; his friends and fellow servants of the Lord.

Funeral arrangements for Dn. Sebuh Oscherician are as follows:

Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, January 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., at St. Leon Armenian Church (12-61 Saddle River Rd., Fair Lawn, NJ).

Funeral services will be held at St. Leon Church on Wednesday, January 28, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

In-lieu-of-flowers donations in Dn. Sebuh’s memory may be made to St. Leon Church or to the family.

May God grant rest to His servant Deacon Sebuh Oscherician, and remember him on the day of His judgment.
