In a message to Diocesan leaders, Primate Fr. Mesrop Parsamyan directed the faithful to hold a day of prayer and fasting on Wednesday, August 23, in solidarity with the Armenians of Artsakh.
“In the annals of Armenian history, there have been moments of profound trial, when the collective spirit and steadfast faith of our people have been tested,” wrote the Primate. “Today, we face such a moment, as we bear witness to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Artsakh.”
Echoing the spirit of the Biblical Queen Esther, who called on her people to unite in fasting and prayer to God in order to avert a looming disaster, Fr. Mesrop wrote: “Today, we seek a similar divine intervention, believing that our unified prayers, combined with tangible acts of love and solidarity, will herald a new time of peace and prosperity for our brothers and sisters in Artsakh.” He appended a prayer that can be read in group or private settings.
In his call to action on behalf of Artsakh, the Primate also urged people to make their voices heard in the halls of there U.S. government, by utilizing the online resources of Armenian advocacy groups.

A Message from the Primate
Dearly Beloved Clergy and Faithful of our Eastern Diocese: Peace be unto you and grace from our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the annals of Armenian history, there have been moments of profound trial, when the collective spirit and steadfast faith of our people have been tested. Today, we face such a moment, as we bear witness to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. Our beloved brothers and sisters, the children of our ancient homeland, find themselves once again in daunting circumstances. The afflictions faced by our kin cry out to the heavens, beckoning us to unite in prayer and action.
Our Armenian advocacy groups have presented various ways to contact our representatives in the U.S. government, to make our voices heard in support of Artsakh. I urge you to join these efforts via the websites of the Armenian Assembly of America and the Armenian National Committee.
But in this time of crisis, we should also look to Scripture for guidance. I am reminded of the story of Queen Esther, a beacon of hope for all Armenians. When her people faced annihilation at the hands of the wicked Haman, it was Esther who, with faith and fortitude, sought divine intervention through fasting and prayer. She called upon her people to do the same, with the words: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do” (Esther 4:16).
In this spirit, I am directing clergy and lay leaders across our Diocese to observe a day of fasting and prayer, on Wednesday, August 23, from midnight to 6 p.m. During the fasting period, I ask that people abstain from all food and drink—except water. (Naturally, you should keep to the fast as best you can, considering your health and personal circumstances.)
Throughout the day, please pray frequently. Let us congregate in our churches and homes, imploring the Lord for His merciful intervention in Artsakh. A downloadable prayer is attached to this directive, which can be used in parish or family prayer gatherings.
In these trying times, let the example of Queen Esther remind us of the transformative power of collective faith and unity. Through her faith and the united prayer and fasting of her people, a looming disaster was averted. Today, we seek a similar divine intervention, believing that our unified prayers, combined with tangible acts of love and solidarity, will herald a new time of peace for our brothers and sisters in Artsakh.
I urge all parishes to hold special liturgies, prayer vigils, and gatherings in the coming days, and especially on Wednesday, August 23. Let the incense of our prayers rise to the heavens, and may our voices be a resonant echo of hope and faith across our communities.

Միացէ՛ք աղօթքով եւ գործով Արցախի համար
Սիրելի Հոգեւորականներ եւ Հաւատացեալներ Արեւելեան Թեմիս,
Խաղաղութիւն ձեզ եւ մեր Տիրոջ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի Շնորհքը բոլորիդ։
Հայ ժողովուրդի պատմութեան մէջ, շատ անգամ լուրջ պահեր եղած են, երբ մեր ժողովուրդի հաւաքական ոգին եւ ամուր հաւատքըփորձութեան ենթարկուած են։ Այսօր մենք կրկին դէմ յանդիման կը գտնուինք ականատեսը ըլլալով Արցախի մէջ օր ըստ օրէվատթարացող մարդասիրական տագնապին։
Մեր սիրելի եղբայրներն ու քոյրերը, զաւակները մեր հինաւուրց հայրենիքին, անգամ մը եւս ինքզինքնին կը գտնեն մտահոգիչ եւվախնալիք կացութեան մը մէջ։ Այն խոր վշտին, որուն ենթարկուած են մեր հարազատները աղաղակելով մինչեւ բարձունքներըերկնքի, մեզ կը կանչեն միանալու աղօթքով ու մեր ընելիքներով՝ յօգուտ Արցախի։
Մեր Հայկական պաշտպանող ու ջատագով խումբերը զանազան ճամբաներ ներկայացուցած են հաղոդակցելու Ամերիկեանկառավարութեան մէջ ծառայող մեր ներկայացուցիչներուն հետ, որպէսզի մեր ձայնը լսելի դառնայ յօգուտ Արցախին։ Ես կըքաջալերեմ ձեզ, որ միանաք այդ խումբերուն տարած աշխատանքներուն, յատկապէ՛ս երթալով Ամերիկայի Հայկական Համագումարի (Armenian Assembly of America) եւ Հայ Դատի (Armenian National Committee) կայքէջին։
Բայց այս ճգնաժամային պահուն, մենք պէտք է նաեւ նայինք Սուրբ Գրքին ուղեցոյց ստանալու համար։ Ես կը մտաբերեմ ԵսթերԹագուհիին պատմութիւնը, որ յոյսի ազդարար մըն է ամբողջ Հայութեան։ Երբ իր ժողովուրդը ոչնչացման վտանգին առջեւգտնուեցաւ չարագործ Համանի ձեռքին տակ, Եսթերն էր, որ իր հաւատքով եւ հաստատակամութեամբ գտաւ Աստուածայինմիջամտութիւնը՝ պահեցողութեամբ եւ աղօթքով։ Ան յորդորեց իր ժողովուրդին նոյնը ընել այս բառերովը. « Գացէ՛ք, հաւաքեցէքբոլոր Հրեաները միասին, որոնք Սիսիս քաղաքի մէջ են եւ ծոմ պահեցէք ինծի համար։ Մի՛ ուտէք եւ խմէք երեք օրեր տիւ եւ գիշեր։Ես ու իմիններս ծոմ պիտի պահենք ձեր նման։ /Եսթ. 4:16/
Այս ոգիով, կը հրահանգեմ մեր Թեմի բոլոր հոգեւորականներուն եւ աշխարհական առաջնորդներուն, որպէսզի Չորեքշաբթի, Օգոստոսի 23-ին, կէս գիշերէն սկսեալ մինչեւ յաջորդ օրուան երեկոյեան ժամը 6-ը ծոմ պահեն։ Այս պահեցողութեան ընթացքինպիտի թելադրեմ, որ հեռու մնաք ամէն տեսակի ուտելիքէ եւ խմիչքներէ, ի բաց առեալ ջուրէ։ (Անշուշտ եթէ առողջական խնդիրներունիք, ձեր ծոմապահութիւնը անոր համաձայն պէտք է պահէք)։
Ամբողջ օրուան ընթացքին, պիտի խնդրեմ, որ յաճախակի աղօթէք։ Հաւաքուինք մեր եկեղեցիներու եւ տուներու մէջ, հայցելովՏիրոջը ողորմած միջամտութիւնը Արցախի մէջ։ Այս շրջաբերականիս կցած եմ աղօթք մը, որ կարելի է գործածել եկեղեցւոյ մէջ եւկամ ընտանեկան հաւաքներուն ընթացքին։
Այս փորձութեան ժամանակաշրջանին, Թող Թագուհի Եսթէրին օրինակը յիշեցնէ մեզ հաւատքի ու միութեան այլափոխող ուժը։ Իրհաւատքի ու իր ժողովուրդի միասնական աղօթքի եւ ծոմապահութեամբը, սպառնացող աղէտը հեռացուեցաւ։ Այսօր մենք կը հայցենքնոյնանման Աստուածային միջամտութիւն մը , հաւատալով, որ մեր միացեալ աղօթքները միախառնուած շօշափելի սիրոյ եւհամերաշխութեան արարքներով, պիտի աւետեն խաղաղութեան եւ բարգաւաճման նոր ժամանակի մը, Արցախի մեր եղբայրներուն եւքոյրերուն համար։
Յոյժ կը թելադրեմ, որ մեր ծուխերը մասնաւոր Պատարագներ, հսկումներ ունենան, ինչպէս նաեւ հաւաքներ յառաջիկայ օրերուն, յատկապէ՛ս Չորեքշաբթի, Օգոստոսի 23-ին։ Թող խունկը մեր աղօթքներուն բարձրանայ դէպի երկինք եւ մեր ձայնը թող յոյսի եւհաւատքի արձագանքը ըլլայ մեր բոլոր համայնքներուն մէջ։
