Rev. Fr. Vartan Joulfayan, the pastor at St. Mary Church of Hollywood, FL, was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on November 20, 1963. Fr. Vartan's given name was Dikran until his ordination on February 22, 1998, at St. Vartan Cathedral in New York by Archbishop Khajag Barsamian.

His early education was at the Mesrobian Armenian School in Beirut, Lebanon. He received his seminary education from the Gevorkian Seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin, and upon his graduation, he moved to the United States and then to Canada, where he served for a number of year as a pastor's assistant. In 1995, he received his master's degree from St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary.

Fr. Vartan and his wife, Gayaneh, then moved from Canada to Hollywood, FL, where they became involved with the construction of the new sanctuary for the parish.
