St. James Church of Evanston, IL, will host a recital/lecture by Dn. Rubik Mailian titled “Gomidas Vartabed: One Hundred and Fifty Years,” on Friday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m., at the church (816 Clark St., Evanston). Surveying the contribution of the great priest-musician to Armenian sacred music, the lecture will include live examples of singing, and feature a prelude performance by the NAREK Bell Choir of St. James Church. This event is part of the Sacred Music Festival organized by the Sacred Music Council of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (see the listing elsewhere in this calendar for information on the festival).
