We are deeply saddened by the recent deaths in Minneapolis, Minnesota: fellow citizens whose lives were cut short during federal law enforcement actions. These events have stirred pain and concern across the country, and our hearts go out to the families, friends, and all who grieve these losses.

Every human life is precious and made in the image of God, and the taking of life is always a solemn and serious moral matter. In a nation governed by law and conscience, force must be used only as a last resort and with deep respect for human dignity. We pray for truth, transparency, and accountability as these incidents continue to be examined and investigated.

At the same time, we recognize the heavy and difficult responsibilities that fall on those entrusted with public safety. Law-enforcement officers should be afforded the respect and tools necessary to protect life and uphold peace, and they too are called to act with restraint and honor the worth of every person.

As people of faith, we lament every loss of life and reject the dehumanization of any individual or group. When rhetoric fractures our communities and erodes empathy, we weaken the bonds that hold our society together. Let us instead seek a path of compassion and justice — one that honors the humanity of all and leads us toward reconciliation rather than division.

We pray for comfort for the grieving, wisdom for leaders, and peace for our nation. May God guide all people toward a deeper commitment to mercy, truth, and the sanctity of life.

Primate
