The Eastern Diocese is pleased to announce that Bishop Daniel will ordain Deacon Michael Sabounjian to the Holy Order of Priesthood on Friday and Saturday, June 4-5, 2021.
The Service of Calling to the Priesthood and Ordination and Consecration will take place at Holy Resurrection Church in New Britain, CT, where Dn. Michael has been serving as Deacon-in-Charge since February. Fr. Krikor Sabounjian, Dn. Michael’s father, will serve as sponsoring priest during the ceremonies. Stepan Piligian will be the ordination godfather.
Dn. Michael, a native of the Holy Translators parish (Framingham, MA), is a graduate of Boston College and St. Nersess Seminary. Following graduation he served a pastoral internship at the Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church of Providence, RI, under the tutelage of Fr. Shnork Souin. He and his wife Lucine, whom he met while both were attending St. Vartan Camp, have been married since 2019. His parents are Fr. Krikor and Yn. LuAnn Sabounjian.
“I find myself approaching the day of my ordination with overwhelming feelings of gratitude and humility,” said Dn. Michael. “I ask everyone for their prayers, that Christ might embolden me in my faith, strengthen me in my perseverance, and guide me in my ministry. It is clear to me that no success in my pastorate will come as a result of my own efforts, but rather from each member of our parish coming together in Christ’s self-sacrificial love. In that spirit, I pray that the Holy Spirit might direct all that I do in this new chapter of my service within the Body of Christ.”
Following his ordination, the newly-consecrated priest will spend 40 days in seclusion and prayer at St. Nersess Seminary before returning to Holy Resurrection Church as its pastor.
Dn. Michael Sabounjian will be the fifth priest ordained by the hand of Bishop Daniel since the latter was consecrated to the episcopal rank in 2019, and the third he has ordained in as many months.
