Virtual 119th Diocesan Assembly to Begin Saturday, May 1

St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral

The Eastern Diocese will hold its 119th Diocesan Assembly as an online gathering, with attendees participating remotely. The main Assembly general session will be held on Saturday, May 1, with a continuation of the general session on the evening of Tuesday, May 25.

The assembly will proceed in this format due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which also caused the 118th Diocesan Assembly (in January 2021) and an “informational assembly” (in September 2020) to be held as virtual events.

Diocesan Primate Bishop Daniel Findikyan will preside over the assembly and deliver his formal address to the delegates.

As in prior meetings, the 119th Diocesan Assembly will be augmented with online “breakout sessions” during which delegates will be able to ask questions pertaining to the Diocese’s ministry departments and organizations, its finances, an ongoing pilot project on a stewardship-based membership system, and the facilities of the Diocesan Center.

Voting for various Diocesan offices will be held during the general session of May 1. Voting to approve proposals and the budget will take place during the May 25 continuation of the general session. The balloting will be conducted online, using a secure platform successfully employed during the 118th Assembly.

About 150 clergy, Diocesan delegates, and parish council chairs will be taking part in Saturday’s meeting over the Zoom conference platform, beginning at 9:30 a.m. EDT.
