An Ordination to the Holy Priesthood in Springfield, MA, May 28-29

The Eastern Diocese is pleased to announce that Diocesan Primate Bishop Daniel Findikyan will ordain Deacon Timothy Aznavourian to the Holy Order of Priesthood on Friday and Saturday, May 28-29, 2021.

The Service of Calling to the Priesthood and Ordination and Consecration will take place at St. Mark Church in Springfield, MA, where Dn. Timothy has been serving as Deacon-in-Charge since February. Fr. Shnork Souin  will serve as sponsoring priest and Ralph Rafaelian as ordination godfather.

Dn. Timothy, a native of our New England communities, is a 2020 graduate of St. Nersess and St. Vladimir’s seminaries. Following graduation he served a pastoral internship at the Holy Trinity Church of Cambridge, MA, under the tutelage of Fr. Vasken Kouzouian. He is married to the former Julianne Tavitian, whom he met during the 2015 Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Jerusalem. As a married couple they spent 10 months in Armenia as Dn. Timothy studied at Holy Etchmiadzin’s Gevorkian Seminary.

“It’s hard to believe that in a few weeks, God willing, I will be ordained to the Holy Priesthood,” reflects Dn. Timothy. “It is my deep prayer that through the power of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of the saints, my ordination will be a blessing for the parish for whom I am being ordained to serve, as well as for the greater Springfield community. To come to the point of ordination requires above all God’s will, but also the help, advice and encouragement of the many people I have had the privilege of knowing along the way.”

Following his ordination in late May, the newly-consecrated priest will spend 40 days in seclusion and prayer at St. Nersess Seminary before returning to St. Mark Church as its pastor.

Dn. Timothy Aznavourian will be the fourth priest ordained by the hand of Bishop Daniel since the latter was consecrated to the episcopal rank in 2019, and the second he has ordained in as many months.
