With sorrow, the Eastern Diocese mourns the loss of Diramayr Ursula Findikyan, the mother of our Primate, the Very Reverend Fr. Daniel Findikyan, who entered her eternal rest on October 15, following a brief period of hospitalization.
In an announcement to Diocesan leaders, Diocesan Vicar Fr. Simeon Odabashian recalled: “Ursula Findikyan was a woman truly devoted to our Lord. Her kindness, grace, and religious conviction were apparent to everyone who met her. The Armenian Christian heritage was not the home of her birth; but years upon years of faithful, humble service made it the spiritual home of her life—and of her heart.
“She wore the title of ‘diramayr’ with a sense of responsibility. That one of her sons served the Armenian Church as a clergyman was a point of deep and abiding satisfaction for her; and a tender relationship existed between mother and son throughout her days. Diramayr Ursula was equally proud of her son Stephan and daughter Tamara and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.”
Funeral arrangements for Diramayr Ursula are as follows: Visitation hours will take place at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in Binghamton, N.Y., on the morning of Friday, October 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will take place at the church immediately thereafter, starting at 11:30 a.m.
The family has asked that in-lieu-of-flowers donations be made to the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church (12 Corbett Ave., Binghamton, NY 13903); or to the Dr. Garabed A. Fattal Community Free Clinic (c/o Clinical Campus, 425 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY 13904).
We convey our condolences to our Primate and to the Findikyan family. May our risen Lord grant rest to his servant Diramayr Ursula, and remember her on the great day of his judgment.
