ACYOA Juniors Gather for Fall Sports Weekend

Over Columbus Day weekend, 248 ACYOA Juniors from 16 parishes throughout the Eastern Diocese gathered for the annual ACYOA Juniors Fall Sports Weekend, hosted by St. Sahag and St. Mesrob Church in Wynnewood, PA.

The weekend, themed “HyeWay to Philly,” opened on Friday with an evening service led by the Very Rev. Fr. Oshagan Gulgulian, parish pastor.

On Saturday morning, the young athletes took part in sports competitions, which were held at Competitive Edge Sports in King of Prussia, PA. Team sports included co-ed volleyball and boys’ and girls’ basketball, and also featured a variation on soccer called futsal. Individual competitions included chess, tavloo, Connect Four, and ping pong.

On Saturday evening, participants enjoyed a dance at St. Sahag and St. Mesrob’s Memorial Hall, which featured a photo booth and carnival games.

Fr. Gulgulian celebrated the Divine Liturgy on Sunday. The Rev. Fr. Mardiros Chevian, dean of St. Nersess Seminary, also took part in the service and gave the sermon.

Sunday afternoon continued with sports finals, and the day concluded with an awards banquet and dance.

On Monday morning, the young people enjoyed a farewell breakfast before returning to their home parishes.
